What is Spring Fever you ask? Well, it’s a fluctuating mood many living things feel as winter comes to a close, and the daylight hours grow longer. The symptoms can include restlessness, vitality, increased energy and sexual urges. It can also bend us toward the opposite, which would be lethargy, depression and the like.
There’s actually been studies on it! Folks have been tested in the spring, and the findings are that on sunny spring days, peoples’ moods are unarguably better. You’re probably thinking “Duhh!” but check this out. When testing people again in the summer, having spent an equivalent amount of time outdoors, the sun doesn’t have the same effect! It’s a spring thing!
Also, some birth records have been kept for a long time. Like 1,600’s long. Anyway, what the records show is that March birth rates were 20% higher throughout history than any other month. Also, even with air conditioning, central heating and sunlamps, modern birth records show that March has a 10% higher birth rate. This means there’s 10% - 20% more conception happening in June! Sexy!
This is still leaving out plants and non-human animals, and holy shit, do they go crazy? All those allergy pills you’re paying for is because of pollen, AKA plant sperm! Also, think about mice, rabbits and deer. Do you think they’d have a better chance at life being born at the beginning of summer or winter? It’s plain survival! Plants blooming, tons to eat, enjoyable temperatures; the list goes on.
Some scientists argue that Spring Fever has to do with a lack of melatonin secretions, which are supposedly stimulated by dimmer light. Other scientists say that temperature has a lot to do with it, and that 72 degrees Fahrenheit mixed with sunlight is what might make this happen. Other scientists simply say it’s all bullshit!
All I know is that I’m looking forward to June!
